Free Visa on Arrival for Australians
28 July 2016
Australian Passport holders can now obtain a free 30 day visa on arrival in Papua New Guinea (PNG). The PNG government announced the change in visa requirements early this month (July).
The announcement is very welcome news for the nation’s tourism industry according to PNG Tourism Promotion Authority CEO Mr. Jerry Agus, who in a statement said that the new process of tourist visas would encourage and make things easier for Australians to visit their closest neighbour.
“Over the last few years we’ve seen such fantastic growth in cruising and now with an easier visa process we hope to see increased numbers for those arriving by plane too.
“We now want to work with all partners to ensure a streamlined process through the airport immigration system.
“It’s an exciting time for PNG with the tourism bodies and partners strongly focusing on developing tourism infrastructure in areas including Milne Bay and Rabaul/Kokopo, whilst its early days we are motivated to grow this industry and welcome more tourists,” said Mr. Agus.
Air Niugini and PNG Air provide weekly flights from Cairns to Port Moresby – approximate flying time is an hour and twenty-five minutes.
